Minecraft – Introduction to Farming

Farming produces a valuable way to obtain supplies for the Minecraft adventures. Now before you think it’s a simple “go and grow” as if you might find on well-known game apps, you might like to consider a few things.

Plant Farming

You first have to craft a hoe (in survival mode) or locate one in the tools tab (in creative mode), then find a patch of grass to start your farm. Right-click there to begin with. Once it becomes rows of dirt that look like farmland, take a seed you’ve found – either from destroying trees along with other plants in survival mode or finding them in the materials tab in creative mode – then right-click in which you want to plant your seed. You’ll then see very small buds. To produce your plants grow naturally, surround the area with a channel water; an average time for full growth on water alone is 5-10 minutes. You are free to continue gameplay in the intervening time and return to visit your plants when you are ready. If you’d like them to grow faster, you are able to apply some bonemeal (in the bones of destroyed skeletons). Right-click the guarana plant to apply that bonemeal, and voil! Based on the size of the plant (e.g. grass vs. tree), it will take 1-5 clicks for instantaneous growth.

Once the plant is grown, it’s ready for harvest. Destroy the flower to make the produce drop. Some plants that can be grown are sugarcane, wheat, pumpkins, and carrots. Some plants have fun special features; as an example, you can make a jack-o-lantern away from a pumpkin and use it on your head!

Mob Farming

Mob farming is more complicated than plant farming. The goal of mob farming is not to grow plants but alternatively to “grow” a group of enemies that upon “birth” will die automatically, providing you with the items they will drop. Sounds gruesome, but actually the characters “grown” or spawned just fall over and disappear, leaving valuable items including ender pearls (which can be used to find end portals), bones (that you can use for bonemeal or to train your pet dog), or string (for bows and arrows).

First thing you need to do is find an excellent design, which will not be covered in this article (the best option is to do an online search to find a design you prefer). One method that tends to work well is water + cliff. An essential component of mob farming is a completely dark enclosure, every dark place within the world of Minecraft spawns enemy characters including endermen and zombies, so keep that in mind as you start to explore the intricacies of mob farming. You need to choose a location that can provide complete darkness, for example going underground or ocean caves, or even a nocturnal time within gameplay.
